Success in ISI Inspection

Here are some of the most salient comments made by ISI Inspectors during their visit in May 2010:-

"By the time pupils reach year 6, they achieve high standards in Mathematics, English and Science. Results in national tests at age eleven over the last three years for which comparative data is available show the school has achieved above the national average for all maintained primary schools. Pupils work hard in school and achieve good standards in subjects across the curriculum. They achieve well and present their work to a high standard. They work co-operatively in lessons and engage with their learning. Team work amongst pupils is a significant strength of the school and underpins the school's core values of faith, hope, justice and love."

"Pupils' personal development is excellent. Pupils reflect carefully about spiritual matters."

"Pupils relate well to each other and to teachers and other adults in the school. They enjoy coming to school and feel the teachers help them to learn. They behave very well in lessons and in and around the school. The children have a clear sense of right and wrong."

"The School provides a safe and secure environment. Pastoral care is a strong feature of the school."

"The governing body is highly supportive."

"The Head has been instrumental in leading the school forward and implementing change with great vision and sensitivity over the last five years. She is ably assisted by the deputy heads."

"The senior management team has a clear vision of the direction in which the school needs to move. The Bursar and support staff play a significant role in the running of the school."

"Communications with parents through regular newsletters and the school website are good. The parents are very supportive of the school."

"The pre-inspection questionnaire completed by parents highlighted for praise the nurturing environment and the support offered to pupils by teachers."

Early Years provision received its own accolades:-

"Outcomes for children in the EYFS are outstanding. Children's social and emotional development is excellent and progress is very good for all other areas of learning and development. Children are happy, enthusiastic and eager to get involved in their activities."

"The overall effectiveness of the EYFS is good with some outstanding features. Staff are strongly committed to the children's welfare. They recognise, and provide for, the individual needs of each child through a key worker system in the Nursery, and small class sizes in Reception. As a result, all children make very good progress, regardless of their individual starting points. Partnership with parents is very good. There is an excellent sense of teamwork within the EYFS."
