Our School

We are an independent Catholic school with charitable status which welcomes children of all denominations. We have a long history of inspiring children to learn. We encourage them to become rounded individuals and are particularly proud of our academic success, but also of excellence achieved in Music, Drama and Sport. Our children aim high in all that they do at Virgo Fidelis. We are fortunate to be able to teach and learn in such beautiful, safe surroundings and are constantly building on our academic and personal successes.

With impressive high standards of teaching and learning in our school, everyone at Virgo Fidelis looks to the future with great confidence. Our school has grown substantially in recent years. We have proved a popular choice for parents locally and further afield. Our classes are small to facilitate a more personalised approach. It is impossible to put a value on a first class education at Primary level and the doors that this will open in Secondary education.

The National Curriculum is followed throughout the school, with excellent results in the Standard Assessment Tests at 7 and 11. Progress is monitored throughout the school using NFER standard tests.

Children begin with a very solid grounding in Reading, Writing and Arithmetic, giving them the basis for developing greater independence in their learning. Learning resources of all types are readily available in the Library, the Information Technology Suite as well as, of course, in the children's own classrooms.

We have a lovely chapel and when required we use the Parish Church of Virgo Fidelis which is situated in our beautiful grounds.

The school day starts at 8.30am and finishes at 3.15 for infants and 3.30 for juniors. Each day we have an assembly at 8.45 for the infants and juniors. We have a twenty minute break each morning when the children go out to play. Lunch is at 12.00 noon. Children can have a school dinner in the Dining Hall, supervised by staff. After lunch the children play out or attend lunchtime clubs (which include: orchestra, netball, football, cross-country, cricket, science, choir, gardening, games, languages, dance) before lessons begin again for the afternoon. Infants have a fifteen minute afternoon break. (See "Early Years" for details on Nursery which differ from the rest of the school).

Our pupils are the best advertisement for our school. Come and see them at work and play. Please telephone the school to make an appointment.
